Who are the Catholics: The Orthodox or The Romanists, or both?
Me

Posted on 01/05/2010 9:46:47 PM PST by the_conscience

I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?

I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?

One world global authority is the invention of a stiff-necked Calvinist Presbyterian, Woodrow Wilson, America’s first fascist president.

Actually you would be hard pressed to find a reformed believer that favors any kind of ecumenical activity.. we do not believe that everyone that says they are a "christian" is one..it seems to me it is the Catholic church looking for "reconciliation" with everyone from the Anglicans to the Muslims. That sets thec stage for the one world government

You guys really like to debate using ad hominems don't you?

"“When someone says that Constantine was a A Pope and the Church Fathers did not believe in the True Presence of Eucharist- what do you call it? It’s a lie!”

It MAY be a lie. It MAY be the poster is sincerely in error. Or it MAY be the poster uses somewhat different definitions, or has a different interpretation of events than you do.

In general you are right, but in this instance the ...."confabulation" has been refuted and substantiated many, many times in multiple posts. Once corrected the substance of the statement and motive become explicit. In spite of the limited vocabulary permitted a rose is a rose is a rose is a rose.

Arizona, just south of Tucson. Send me a FRmail if you end up passing by Tucson, and I’ll take you out to see the ‘relic’ yourself!

So almost right, and so utterly wrong!

Tell me about the book, please. Is it (see, now I don't know what term to use at all!) someone in communion with the See of Rome trying to explain what we believe or is it someone NOT in com..... trying to mug what we believe?

It's interesting to me that it really could be either.

"but it is not true that a saint who prays for you is altogether no different from a friend in this life praying for you.

Perhaps you are just not fortunate enough to count saints among your friens.

They specialize in ad hominem attacks .. when you can not answer the question or respond with a substantive answer you divert the discussion by attacking the man who makes it .

It is a hapless mans tactic

Like a tithe, perhaps? I bet He'll take whatever we give Him...even our weakness and sins...

My guess is that you being in the Military and all, that you must have bowed in front of a coffin of a deceased soldier in honor of his life?

We honor the Saints the same way,but the real Glory goes to Christ who created such Holy people.

A good analogy is when you see people in an art gallery gathering around a famous painting...people gather round and praise the painting and it’s beauty and so on,but In reality the real Glory is going to the artist who drew the painting.

God wants us to remember and honor and share the lives of beautiful people He created who live Christlike lives.

I find it hard to understand why people can’t understand this

"I still put my hand over my heart for the National Anthem."

I believe you are a veteran. The Defense Authorization Act of 2009, signed by "W", allows un-uniformed service-members, military retirees, and veterans to render a hand salute during the hoisting, lowering, or passing of the U.S. flag and during the national anthem.

I'm not an authentic Christian. I pray daily that the unmerited grace of Christ will more and more purge out the inauthenticity.

And in related news, from the Epistle (late first century, early 2nd, said by the Oxford Dictionary of the Xtian Church) of Clement (2nd or 3rd Pope):

We are not justified by our wisdom, intelligence, piety, or by any action of ours, however holy, but by faith, the one means by which God has justified men from the beginning.
It was nice to come upon that it today's morning prayers.

But playing stupid language games using impersonal pronouns to personally attack someone is the ultimate good. The essence of Romanism.

We are required to be impersonal on the RF. I actually learned how from a Protestant. And "Romanism" is a slur.

"I walk the line, I walk the line."

No and that is why Freepers must not call each other liars on the Religion Forum.

Liberals and Conservatives have their own sets of facts, e.g. 2nd amendment, global warming. Liberals do not have a voice on this forum and so their set of facts are never aired.

But in various debates among conservatives here on Free Republic, each side may also have its own set of facts. Just look at any civil war thread or any creation v evolution thread.

Either side would gladly call the other side liars. And off the Religion Forum, they sometimes do and posters get into trouble, threads get pulled or banished to the smoky backroom.

That is not tolerable here on the Religion Forum where each side - sometimes by fiat of religious authority - have a different and hardened set of facts.

Therefore I require that RF posters not call each other liars or otherwise attribute motives, read minds or turn threads into personal battlegrounds.
