I just witnessed a couple of Orthodox posters get kicked off a "Catholic Caucus" thread. I thought, despite their differences, they had a mutual understanding that each sect was considered "Catholic". Are not the Orthodox considered Catholic? Why do the Romanists get to monopolize the term "Catholic"?
I consider myself to be Catholic being a part of the universal church of Christ. Why should one sect be able to use a universal concept to identify themselves in a caucus thread while other Christian denominations need to use specific qualifiers to identify themselves in a caucus thread?
I live my life in the presence of Christ as He is in me and I in His in me.. there is not one moment that He and I are not in spiritual union..
I see Catholics live a spiritual life that revolves around a 20 second encounter with what they believe is Christ and then their lives move on in he same direction..they do not know him more or understand him more, communion is like a lucky charm that puts them in touch with god so they do not have to put forth any time in really spending time to know God better.
I have a question..what if the RC church is wrong and the bread is NOT the actual body of Christ, but it is actually a memorial ..you are guilty of idolatry, kneeling before a false god
Amen..the God that knows every hair on our head know every one of His children..
Amen
Do you believe that anything can happen that God does not want to happen? Is God not sovereign over the affairs of man?
Thank you for providing such palpable, demonstrable proof that Jean Cauvin was a lying scumbag tool of Satan.
Mr.Rogers..we have FAR more that unites us than divides us. We have a different Ordo Salutis (order of salvation) but we agree on Who saves and how He saves.. praise God brother...someday we will have the full answer revealed to us by the one that ordered it :)
Fruit analogies have nothing to do with it. There is an unbroken succession of popes from Peter I to Benedict XVI within the Catholic Church guided by the Holy Spirit through the process of Apostolic Succession. If you concede that the Holy Spirit worked with as you say the "early church" you have to explain how the Holy Spirit stopped working with the same institution. The answer is you can'.
The answer to that is actually quite simple:
It would mean that the Apostles John and Paul and quite possibly our Lord, Jesus Christ were LIARS. A single lie in the New Testament means that ALL of Christianity is based on lies.
The faith that Christianity requires is that the New Testament IS TRUE, but it is not surprising that Protestantism has systematically explained away the more difficult aspects of faith in order to enlarge membership. True faith sometimes REQUIRES the suspension of reason and goes far beyond the remedial intellectual exercises that defines many Protestants.
Sorry, I meant to ping you to this.
“The early church was universal but it was not “roman “catholic.. The church as they knew it was much closer to what would be a protestant service than a catholic one.. /
Do you actually have anything to back up this claim or is it just something you WANT to be true?”
Maybe.
Priests? Taking confession? Assigning penance? The Apostles were rather quiet about them, if it existed.
The Eucharist in the early church is discussed by a Protestant scholar (Philip Schaff) here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2379242/posts
However, it probably wasn’t much like the normal modern Protestant service, either...the article by Schaff points that out as well.
I suspect the truth is that neither Catholic nor Protestant worship service is all that close the what was found in 100-200 AD, nor should it be. At least in America, we aren’t being hunted down and killed, we have scripture complete, we have a different environment for evangelism, etc.
The evolution of doctrine is more disturbing to me than the evolution of our services.
Interesting read. The key being whether a sinner is willful (defiant) or unwitting.
Jesus was responding to those who accused Him of performing miracles not by the power of the Holy Spirit, but from Satan.
Mark 3:22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, "He has Beelzebuub," and,"By the ruler of the demons He casts out demons."
I don't believe a Christian will ever question by who's power Jesus performed miracles, so the unpardonable sin would not be something they could commit. However, is it possible that Jesus is also referring to a later time where people curse the Holy Spirit for not revealing to them the truth of who Jesus Christ is?
Mark 3: 29 "but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation"-
Do you?
Do you believe that you can eat His Flesh and drink His Blood?
Do you realize that He allowed many to walk away who DID NOT believe this?
Then your understanding and knowledge of Catholics and Catholicism is woefully inadequate. I would encourage you to actually study the Catechism before you criticize what you don't understand.
Catholics share your constant and continual relationship with God AND take that relationship to a higher plane by establishing a tangible, physical, and intimate contact with the body and blood of Christ through the Eucharist. If you believe in transubstantiation you will find receiving the Eucharist exhilarating and spiritually intoxicating. If you don't and have never experienced it you cannot honestly discuss or describe it.
Exactly...what we do know is they preached and broke bread..
“We have a different Ordo Salutis (order of salvation) but we agree on Who saves and how He saves.. praise God brother...someday we will have the full answer revealed to us by the one that ordered it :)”
True enough. I’m content to leave it as John MacArthur teaches - that there is much we don’t understand. I’d go further - there is much that, in heaven, we won’t even care about...we won’t want the answers, because we’ll understand the question is wrong.
Like Job, we’ll say,
“I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
‘Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.
‘Hear, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you make it known to me.’
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear,
but now my eye sees you;
therefore I despise myself,
and repent in dust and ashes.” — Job 42
Nonsense. YOU made the claim that the early Church was more like the Protestantism than Catholicism, that makes it YOUR job to prove it.
Wow..."exhilarating" , intoxicating??It is all about "feelings.. The Jews were exhilarated when they danced around the calf too, but God was not there...His wrath fell on that idol and the exhilarated men.
As I said a Catholics entire spiritual life is a 20 sec encounter with a piece of bread.
They trust in a piece of bread to make them holier and more acceptable to God..the majority of Catholics have little relationship with the word of God .
I was raised Catholic, educated catholic through college, active in the church as a lector and liturgist as well as a CCD teacher and speaker on Catholic retreats..
I praise God daily for His saving grace and mercy on one like me.. I was sought by one I did not seek...Thank you Jesus !!
