We have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words....

Nope...The one true church tells us THEY know these things from, logic, reason and common sense with a couple of tubs of philosophy thrown in...

It had better be an inferiority complex or you’ll never get it.

It is the doctrine of little men boasting about their station in life. No assurance. Just boasting. Hardly Christian, but pure Calvinist.

Antioch is not in Syria. Any more than San Francisco is in Mexico. Iscool, may I ask if you are trying to fail, or if it just comes naturally?

In the midst of what divides us, a brief reminder of what unites us...

Martha Coakley on the Ken Pittman Show January 14, 2010

Ken Pittman: Right, if you are a Catholic, and believe what the Pope teaches that any form of birth control is a sin. ah you don’t want to do that.

Martha Coakley (D): No we have a seperation of church and state Ken, lets be clear.

Ken Pittman: In the emergency room you still have your religious freedom.

Martha Coakley (D): (......uh, eh...um..) The law says that people are allowed to have that. You can have religious freedom but you probably shouldn’t work in the emergency room.

I am a little man, no mistake about it.

“Then Job answered the Lord: I am unworthy- how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth”.

Whereas the Calvinist proclaims: I am unworthy - now gimme that limo ride now; all you non Calvinists can shove it since I am of the worthy and you are of the non worthy. Tough buns and good luck in hell since you are not of the elect.

Who told you that you personally are saved?

"Mormons also claim that the bible is true “insofar as it is translated correctly”. Now where have we heard that before?"

Isn't that what you have been telling Catholics for the last 3000 posts?

I’m completely unworthy from beginning to end.

“Would he thank the servant because he did what he what he was told to do? So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants: we have only done our duty.’”

Must be your church told you the tale that the red letters were far more important than the others.

How I learned what it MEANT to be red-green color-blind: A guy at college had a line on discount Bibles. I ordered a nice KJV, red-letter edition.

It arrived. I opened it and turned to Matthew 5. Then I checked the colophon and saw that yes it was a red-letter edition.

Darn.

Yes, the Calvinist is arrogant in his humility. Kinda reminds me of the lines from Weird Al Yankovic’s Amish Paradise:

Think you’re really humble? Think you’re pure in heart?
Well I know that I’m a million times as humble as thou art.

Calvin also got it wrong interpreting bondservant or indentured servant versus involuntary slave. Even Saint Paul says explicitly that it is possible to lose his own salvation, which then presupposes that that condition applies to all humanity. I suppose that this would mean that the predestination crowd are up the creek without a Calvin. If they actually paid attention to all of Scripture and not just selected snippet of Paul and the OT.

He used that nation to show His glory through and make His name great in all the world..That was the purpose of their ordination as His people.. among those people were an elect people that would be His adopted children..

Amen!

!!!!TRADITION!!!!

The INSTITUTION

It’s all they’ve been taught from early, most of them.

Without keeping the house of cards aligned in lock step, the cracks would appear devastating—eternally devastating.

Hello HarleyD,... Just to say how refreshing to see your response stated in an uncomplicated and distinct way. I especially liked how you spoke of God’s call to people, different one from the other and continues to be this today.

We can all look back to the process and see God’s hand bringing us to Him...but it isn’t all that clear as we walk those steps.
I recall well reading the scriptures in a big old family Bible..the ten commandments came into view, (with that usual checking off one does of passing that test or not.) Thought I faired ok, seemed to be balanced, until I came to......

“But if anyman sins in the LEAST of these commandments he is guilty of them ALL.”.....You can imagine the jolt on my self-examination..stopped in my tracks. My first prayer then began as I argued with God how unfair that was, and finally ended as I threw my arms high and declared to Him..”Then I have no hope.”.....”I’m Doomed!”

Of course a string of events, and people, and alot of scripture would follow that moment of time, which He clearly had in the pipeline, and I met Jesus along that path. But I won’t forget that God accepted my first prayer just as it was...just as I was..and continued to take me the rest of the way.

Thank you for prompting my thoughts to that day...it was a good day....

It was Him....

I agree with Paul that I am a slave of God.

“This is a letter from Paul, the slave of God and the envoy of Jesus Christ, whose task it is to awaken faith in God’s chosen ones, and to equip them with a fuller knowledge of that truth, which enables a man to live a really religious life”

Your's are about the only posts I consistently read every word of. I am amazed how much we have in common in testimony, life story and beliefs. Praise the Lord! Thank you for your well thought out and respectful (as much as is possible) responses.

I can see why this thread is over 3000 responses long, we keep rehashing the same arguments. I stopped interjecting a few days ago because of how futile it seems. I think there have been some amazing thoughts presented and I have learned a few things, so for that, I am grateful. I wish we could get to the point where we agree to disagree and move on without getting hurtful, prideful and hateful. We should never forget others read and we never hear from them. I would hope my posts could be as knowledgeable and forgiving as your's have been. You set a good example. I'm growing somewhat fonder of MadDawg’s, as well. :o)

that men are 100% responsible for the evil they do and at the same time God has ordained all things for His glory.

Yup, Calvingod predestined that Hitler would be a mass-murderer and wrote down exactly what Hitler would do. Then, when Hitler's strings were pulled and he DID that, then Calvingod turned and said "AHA! Now you go to hell and burn, baby, burn!"
