I think they're absolutely fascinating. Have you ever seen the video footage of a herd of female elephants stomping to death the lion cubs belonging to several lionesses that killed an elephant baby? One or two of the elephants would watch those lionesses every day and when they left the cubs alone, the elephants grouped together and killed the cubs.

Can’t recall seeing the video you’re talking about but as I say, it doesn’t surprise me. Elephants are the only other animal other than man with an abstract understanding of death. They mourn their dead. It’s not hard to understand the reasoning behind them killing lion cubs. Think of it. They’re mothers who seen a child(a calf of a ‘’sister’’ or ‘’daughter’’ killed) and they figure “Kill one of mine, I’ll kill one of yours’’ In addition it makes for a kind of cruel logic. The elephant is probably thinking’’ That lion cub or cubs isn’t going to get the chance to grow up and kill any more of our young’’. Clearly the elephant is not an animal to trifle with.
