"From my earliest memories as a child the one thing that has seemed self-evident to me is that religions pretty much pit humans against each other.

How about some manipulation. Someone stirring the pot to blame human nature on belief systems. Commies brag about busting up a country in such a fashion.

Works for me. Obviously, I mean as a theory. Religion and the religious- not so much... Equally obvious. When I was younger I couldn't get it why people need to grovel before an imaginary alpha male. As I got older I gradually came to accept that people just do although I'll never understand why. But then I'll never understand Klingon, paedophilia or liberal economics either. I'm not going to change the minds of the religious. They will not change mine. Everybody dies. God sorts us out. C'est la vie.
