Hate Crimes Against Catholics Increase
NC Register ^ | November 24, 2009

Statistics released Nov. 24 by the FBI show hate crimes against religious groups increased by 9% from 2007 to 2008.

USA Today reported that in 2008, there 1,519 incidents against people based on their religion, the statistics show.

The figures reveal that while anti-Jewish attacks made up the highest percentage of the attacks (17%), there was an increase in hate crimes against Catholics — 75, up from 61 in 2007.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, said the increase may be due to the Church becoming more vocal on life issues such as abortion and homosexual unions.

As the Catholic bishops take a stronger stance, he said, it filters down to the laity, and as more traditional Catholics become more vocal, they become targets for those who disagree with them.

“Unfortunately, it spills over into violence,” he said, adding that it’s just going to get worse before it gets better.

“I’ve never seen our country so culturally divided and so polarized,” he said. “These issues are not going away.”

Who first came up with this idea of "false memories?"

In this case, I derived it logically from your premise.

If "the universe could have been created fully formed," it could have been done so yesterday.

Would you disagree?

Which is your way of saying that Genesis was not written to teach us that the world was created in six days 5770 years ago

Precisely. Further this approach greatly devalues the Scripture's purpose - to teach us about God and His relationship to man and creation. It's a God book, not a science text.

Will you admit that the gospels were not written to teach that J*sus worked any of his "miracles" as well, but to teach some more profound truth?

The Gospels certainly teach that Jesus performed miracles, but to say that is why it was written would miss the point by a wide margin as Jesus pointed out to those who required them.

And how does all this gobbledygook translate into an acceptance of uniformitarianism?

It doesn't; it's in response to using the Bible as a science text or anatomy text and the problems of scientism inferring religion and religion used to deduce science.

If that is really what you believe, I recommend you repeat it often, so that people might know what you are

You can twist the point around all you want, but clearly the issue is about MY RIGHT to state my views.

I’m not twisting your point at all. I have stated emphatically and do so again: if that is your view, please state it loudly and often.

So then you pity your few creationist co-religionists.

I said no such thing.

Don't try to jam your filthy words in my mouth. You won't get away with it.

You are never an ex-Catholic unless you have gone in front of a judgment board and denounced the Catholic Church is writing and then had a hearing.

That is so funny! It's like needing a signed letter from Santa Clause giving you permission to not believe in him!

I'm no longer a Catholic and there's not one single thing "the holy mother church" can do about it.

However, if you insist that I'm mistaken, I'm going to save your post to show the moderator when I start posting in your caucus threads.

So pick one please - am I, or am I not?

If that’s what you think, you are wrong.

Coming from a family of many who people have served valiantly in ALL the wars that have occurred since WWI,and as recently as Afghanistan, I’m fully aware of the enormous price of freedom.

I am not in need of a lecture about it.

Truth be told, children are more likely to be abused by educators than clergy.

I'm never going to "get it" on this topic. Why is it so hard to just say "any priest, bishop who abused a child or helped to cover it up should be in jail and never allowed in the clergy again". I can't imagine any RC FReeper tolerates the abuse of children.

I think the experience in Evangelical churches has been (I'm sure there have been exceptions) to see the charge investigated and to make the appropriate authorities aware.

That’s quite a leap, as no one told you that you must stop being wrong....only that you are wrong.

If YOU do not consider yourself to be Catholic, then you are not a member of a “Catholic Caucus” on the Religion Forum even though others believe that you are still Catholic.

Up until that time I had nothing to say.

You still don't. Your perpetual obsession about Catholics not being Jewish enough doesn't count (especially when most Jews themselves do not take the OT literally to begin with).

Yep! Simple enough for a child to wade in and deep enough for a theology prof. to dive in.

As am I. Including myself, a Gulf War vet and retired, married to a Viet Nam vet, also retired. and parent of two vets. Grandparent to an aspiring F-16 pilot.

I DO get touchy about free speech impingement.
