Statistics released Nov. 24 by the FBI show hate crimes against religious groups increased by 9% from 2007 to 2008.
USA Today reported that in 2008, there 1,519 incidents against people based on their religion, the statistics show.
The figures reveal that while anti-Jewish attacks made up the highest percentage of the attacks (17%), there was an increase in hate crimes against Catholics 75, up from 61 in 2007.
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, said the increase may be due to the Church becoming more vocal on life issues such as abortion and homosexual unions.
As the Catholic bishops take a stronger stance, he said, it filters down to the laity, and as more traditional Catholics become more vocal, they become targets for those who disagree with them.
Unfortunately, it spills over into violence, he said, adding that its just going to get worse before it gets better.
Ive never seen our country so culturally divided and so polarized, he said. These issues are not going away.
Do Romanists ever consider that Ad Hom, attack the source, arguments are logical fallacies? Or is that one of those Traditions held to be holy?
No problem .... but it will have to wait until later.
Yes, that is true. And for the record, I happen to appreciate the RCs stand on abortion and homosexuality. And violence against peopel who stand for such is not acceptable. But criticism of doctrine of course is. At least, for now.
Just checking on that little “free speech” issue. And not here on FR, but in the United States of America, which still stands.
Your post is in response to a post that T Minus Four made to me. Neither post contains the quote you posted. Who are you calling a jerk, T Minus Four or me?
That article used quotes from the letter. Why not address the valid points it makes instead of dismissing it outright?
Obviously there is no defense for any of what Ratzinger wrote and did and continues to do.
Any Roman Catholic who goes to the police with sexual abuse allegations against a priest instead of going to their bishop is threatened with excommunication.
Repent, Rome. You're sacrificing your children to "another Christ."
Do "Reformed" folk on a conservative news forum (that is normally suspicious of the mainstream media) realize that people see right through their inconsistencies?
Repent, Protestant Churches, because you defend and preach heresy.
But the RCC is a contradiction regarding homosexuality. While it says it opposes it its priestcraft is rife with it. And that abhorrent sin is overlooked, ignored, excused and thus permitted as a perk belonging to an "alter Christus" - "another Christ."
No, it does not. It says that breaking the pontifical secret carries the thread of excommunication it says NOTHING about going to authorities with allegations.
What heresy do Protestant churches preach?
It's in black and white. I realize Rome has trouble with the printed word, but the rest of the world can read.
Where is this documented? Does this apply to all non-Catholic christian denominations? What if the victim's abuser is his own father (yes, there are cases reported on this, to whom does he file a report?
Truth be told, children are more likely to be abused by educators than clergy. But thank you for linking us all up to an article from 4 years ago, published by the Guardian rag. Their articles are about as credible as those in The Examiner.
A massive load of false information about the Catholic Church posted by Dr. Eckleburg, right on schedule.
As Machen willed.
The Catholic Church has no “priestcraft,” just enemies who hate her....just as Christ told us it would be.
Denial of the sacraments, denial of the priesthood, denial of the God-given role of the Blessed Virgin Mary, denial of the teaching authority of the Church councils and of the Pope, faith alone, sola Scriptura....it varies according to the sect.
If that is really what you believe, I recommend you repeat it often, so that people might know what you are.
False tradition of men like sola fide, sola Scriptura, TULIP, once-saved-always-saved, "fair-game" attacks on Catholics, engrams, peepstones, et cetera ad infinitum.
Ha ha.
Cosmogony was an area of theology long before uniformitarian science claimed the right to sit in judgment on the Word of G-d. The fact that a reference compiled by people who accept that claim define cosmogony as the scientific study of the evolution of the universe is no surprise.
Just curious: do you have the same contempt for your creationist co-religionists (what there are of them) that you do for me?
Do you have a link to the letter?
Not a link to the Guardian's selective quoting from the letter, a link to the letter itself.
It says going to outside authorities (police, newspapers) with sexual abuse allegations against a priest instead of going to the church authorities carries the threat of excommunication.
That's what the Guardian insinuates, but they don't show the entire letter. They have it, but only pull selective quotes from it.
