I can believe anonymous internet guy or I can believe Christ.

You can follow the man-made doctrine of Catholic teachings or you can follow the word of God.

No I cannot do that. There is no such thing.

I do, in the Church He founded for us to guide us and protect us from error: the Catholic Church.

Yeah; right after I finish War and Peace. Two days after Anglicans are welcomed into the Catholic Church you post this. Sorry, poor timing on your part.

“I notice it does not say “...absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to declare themselves to be be subject to the Roman Pontiff.””

No, it doesn’t. Are you making a distinction between witting and unwitting “subjects”? Surely you don’t think that Orthodoxy, in a reunited Church, would agree to allow the Latin Church to indulge in such a fiction, do you? The furthest Orthodoxy might go would be to allow the Papacy to insist that its own people be “subject” to it, but even that is problematical since such subjugation could not possibly be a sine qua non of theosis, which, of course, is what real dogma is.

And if the Catholic Church at one time taught error, then where are you? Oh, that is where we have to use the old ‘private-interpretation,-and-not-really -taught-by-the-Church” trick...

“Missed it by THAT much...”

How many virgins does a martyr get if he only maims an infidel? I think the rule is you only get into heaven if you actually kill a non muslim but you get the virgins as a bomus if the infidel is a Jew or an American..

“PLEASE READ THIS THROUGH IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE POSTING COMMENTS!”

Why should I bother to read something that depends on such a provocative title to entice someone to read it.... besides I already know the answer.

God is all just and all merciful.
So in the end every person gets exactly what he or she deserves—whatever it is.

In light of this hardest fact, theological debate is interesting but ultimately moot.

I would suggest the Catholic Church (which I am a former member) gets their own house in order before suggesting others are not worthy of being saved. Seems to be me there are plenty of baby killers within its own ranks.

Actually, I deserve hell, but thanks to Christ's mercy, His sacrifice, death and resurrection, I, a sinner, am saved by His Grace.

Doesn’t change the dominant fact—if you reach Heaven, you deserved to.

Only because Christ offered Himself for my sins. As He did for everyone.

“What assurance do you have that your sins were forgiven?”

Can’t answer for kindred, but...

“14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” — Romans 8

That said, the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith says (and I agree - it mirrors my own life closely):

18.1 Temporary believers and other unregenerate people may deceive themselves with futile and false hopes and unspiritual presumptions that they are in favour with God and in a state of salvation, but their hope will perish. [1] Yet those who truly believe in the Lord Jesus, and love him in sincerity, and endeavour to walk in all good conscience before him, may be certainly assured in this life that they are in the state of grace; they may rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, knowing that such hope will never make them ashamed. [2]

1. Jeremiah 17:9 Matthew 7:21-23 Luke 18:10-14 John 8:41 Ephesians 5:6-7 Galatians 6:3,7-9
2. Romans 5:2,5 Romans 8:16 1 John 2:3 1 John 3:14,18-19,24 1 John 5:13 2 Peter 1:10

18.3 This infallible assurance is not an essential part of faith, for a true believer may wait a long time, and struggle with many difficulties before obtaining it. [1] Yet we may obtain it without extraordinary revelation and by the right use of ordinary means, for we are enabled by the Spirit to know the things which are freely given to us by God. [2] Therefore it is the duty of everyone to be as diligent as possible to make their calling and election sure, so that their hearts may be enlarged in peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, in love and thankfulness to God, and in strength and cheerfulness in carrying out the duties of obedience. These duties are the natural fruits of this assurance, for it is far from inclining people to loose living. [3]

Normally I avoid trolls. In this case, I will make an exception. The Catholic Church is the only Authentic Christian church founded by the second person of the Blessed Trinity. That’s history, not conjecture. Believe what you wish, just don’t dare play the hypocrite with history and others’ beliefs. And, by the way, the men other than Him that are involved are the original eleven Disciples of Christ. Who are you to denigrate them?

Wonderful to know slavation and to know one is saved without having to read the long articles with a lot od useless Latin terms, isn’t it. Thanks for the Scripture. That gets the job done.

Thank you for posting this beautiful and illuminating article. I particularly appreciate the modest and Lewis-like tone in which it is written. This of course accords perfectly with what I have been reading recently in my perusals of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It’s a comfort.
