CANTON, N.C. (October 13, 2009)—The Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Canton, N.C. will celebrate Halloween by burning Bibles that aren’t the King James Version, as well as music and books and anything else Pastor Marc Grizzard says is a satanic influence.
Among the authors whose books Grizzard plans to burn are well known ministers Rick Warren and Billy Graham because he says they have occasionally used Bibles other than the King James Version, which is the sole biblical source he considers infallible.
According to the church’s Web site, members will also burn “Satan's music such as country, rap, rock, pop, heavy metal, western, soft and easy, southern gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, soul (and) oldies.
“We will also be burning Satan's popular books written by heretics like Billy Graham, Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, John McArthur, James Dobson, Charles Swindoll, John Piper, Chuck Colson, Tony Evans, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swagart, Mark Driskol, Franklin Graham, Bill Bright, Tim Lahaye, Paula White, T.D. Jakes, Benny Hinn, Joyce Myers, Brian McLaren, Robert Schuller, Mother Teresa, The Pope, Rob Bell, Erwin McManus, Donald Miller, Shane Claiborne, Brennan Manning (and) William Young.
During the book burning, according to the Web site, barbecued chicken fried chicken and “all the sides” will be served.
Giving the rest of the Baptists a black eye.
LOL!
I wonder what seminary this guy graduated from?
The church website seems to be down. I wonder why?
The King James Bible, Or the “Authorized” version is just a politically correct, government approved knockoff of the Genevia Bible. The Geneva Bible, which was the most popular Bible with the common people, had marginal notes by Calvanists that King James I of England didn’t like.
I used to be a critic of the various version, but I realized that there are several reliable versions and it is more important to READ the Bible than analyze and compare the various versions.
Oh I agree. More over this guy claims to be closely aligned with the teachings of one Jack Hyles who is a very dubious pastor of the KJV only type. This guy advocated plural marriage, divorce, all sorts of strange behaviour that one would not think of as ‘standard doctrine’.
Article post and your picture post are 3 minutes apart?
The question is how were you so quick with those pics?
Hey, we found somebody who considers himself a Christian who can give the run of the mill muslim a run for their money in an idiocy race.
No questions. I’m not trying to buy an NFL franchise.
“Wheels on the bus go round and round...”
or how about
“Do your ears hang low....”
I'm surprised that the people the article criticizes merely want to "revise" non-English translations of the Bible rather than advocating that every man, woman, and child on earth learn seventeenth century Jacobean English.
All that being said, while I am (naturally) opposed to KJV-onlyism, every culture has a bible that it thinks is "superior" to all others (the Greek Septuagint, the Latin Vulgate, the Armenian--even the Aramaic Targumim). Rural America has the same right to this worldview as any other people (if such right exists at all), but to exalt the translation above the original is the height of absurdity.
Finally, I think that Primitive Baptists also insist on the KJV, and I don't think they are influenced by the people the article mentions, though I could be wrong.
Khamenei has died, someone has to take over.
And Al Gore is busy at this moment.

Do your ears hang low....
The two latest songs in the Obama Hymnal.
No I agree with you. And I actually use some of the other translations because in some areas they do a better job
Sounds like a Jim Jones wannabe.
Jim Jones, despite his "twang" and his fundamentalist preaching style, was an atheist Communist who considered the Bible to be a "paper idol."
;)
Glad you see it his way
Well, at least she didn't go in for country music.
I was able to get on the website, but it took a while. It met and surpassed EVERY negative stereotype about Baptists.
Not Old English. Even Beowulf is Middle English. KJV is Elizabethan English ——vastly different beasts
“Girls just wanna have fu-un ...”
“We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine ...”
