The Rosary and Me

A young man, nineteen years old, trudges up a hill in Berkeley, California. Asked by his parents to leave his New York home, he hitchhiked across the country with a friend. He has moved from crash pad to crash pad, and slept in backyards and in the grassy hills behind the University. He has been taken in by an Episcopal priest and his wife, and gets room and board in exchange for house-cleaning and baby-sitting.

His lips move as he climbs, and in his hand is a cheap rosary.

Grandkids made a creche with us for a project one year, and we had the wise men with real gifts, gold (from my jewelry) frankincense (from the monastery) and myrrh (from a health food store).

I am still praying for them, for vocations. Have done so for many years.

Okay, I'll admit that my humility is really quite remarkable! (I'm very proud of my humility.)

But I'll tell you what I think is important: What does St. Paul mean when he says "Star differs from star." My impression is that he contemplates not only a difference in kind but in degree.

Still, the formulation to stick with is, "Everyone in heaven is as happy as he can be!"

Could be; there are differences within stars, but also in celestial bodies - star versus planet.

Perhaps my take on it differs somewhat; everyone in heaven is overjoyed to be in the presence of God.
