And it's crippling surprisingly where most don't think of. To the Mormon, authority is paramount. Smith undercut the Christian church by claiming the church had no "priesthood" authority to perform this & that.
(Of course, that redefines Biblical priesthood -- which consists of men interceding for other men -- IOW, a priest is someone who represents "us" -- Lds have always turned that around & claimed that a priesthood is someone who represents God...hence the authority issue with them)
Anyway, Lds claim Smith got his priesthood authority but a whole hosts of spirits that appeared to him...
...and they claim those spirits got their authority from Jesus when on earth...
...who got His authority from Heavenly Father...
...who got his authority from either a "council of gods" or at least his god...
...who got his authority from Heavenly Father's grandgod...
...who got his authority from...
And, as you say, that's where the infinite regression comes in.
Ask a Mormon where Authority originated -- and they won't know. And yet they live their lives as if they have it all, exercise it all, and nobody else has it...when they don't even know the Ultimate Source for what they're doing or what they believe.
The priesthood of all believers, in which we invite current Mormons to become a part of, is based upon the authority of Jesus Christ, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End -- the One who has Self-Existed from eternity past...
