Prophecy of Scripture:

2 Peter

2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people even as there shall be among you lying teachers, who shall bring in sects of perdition and deny the Lord who bought them: bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

Sects of perdition are destructive heresies.

And there are lots and lots of sects out there now. Most from the 1600s.

Sola, every man his own pope; every man his own prophet
as his spirit sees fit.

The Holy Spirit does not and cannot give divided interpretations of Scripture.

Op —

There have been sects since the early days. Read again the letters to the seven churches that John penned while on Patmos. Look at the history of the first millennium, at how so-called Christians were burning each other. What a shame to the name of our Lord.

Christ prayed beautifully for unity, recorded by John in chapter 17 of his gospel. Those of us who wear his name have in common not men’s traditions or legends of history, but a faith that the promises made to the Patriarchs came true in the birth, death, and resurrection of the Son of Man.

Scripture tells that story. It is our common ground, and my only allegiance is to the Lord. Yours should be to, not to some guys in funny garb who covet earthly power and make up new rules in Rome.
