Thank you so much for sharing your insights, dearest sister in Christ!
You wrote: "If God were to create false memories, and I am not saying that He did, they would be real to us." I too believe that would be the case. But I doubt God would do such a thing. For He is Truth, and so would not lie to us or cause us to be misled.
Indeed. Well and truly said.

In the Beginning, God created Heaven and the earth. To seek your truth only on the "earthly side" -- which of course is the only part that is susceptible to sense perception and experimental test -- is to lose the Truth of reality. The Creation is matter and Spirit....
Precisely so! Thank you so much for sharing your insights, dearest sister in Christ!

Thank you both oh so very much for this fascinating sidebar discussion on memory, Hume, artificial stimulation of the brain, etc.! Truly I think the key is that there is more to perception under Hume's model than sensory perception.
Obviously Christians experience Spiritual perception, or discernment - "ears to hear."
And one kind of memory that alleges no sensory perception at all is from near-death experiences. Scientists however protest that the memories are not real but an oxygen deprivation dreaming out of a suggestion, something they read about or heard.
However, the stories told by children, who have no apparent ground for dreaming out a suggestion, are quite compelling and very similar.

And many such cases report the person out of their body seeing things on top of air vents etc. where their body’s eyes could not possibly see anything.
So the oxygen depravation thing is utter balderdash.

Well, I’d go with “HIC.” But I think either is acceptable.

I don’t know, Kolo. Isn’t this sort of like laughing at the Special Olympics?

Truly I think the key is that there is more to perception under Hume's model than sensory perception. I so agree, dearest sister in Christ! Not all percepts arise from sense data.
Albert Einstein touches on this "mystery":
There had to be something behind objects that lay deeply hidden...the development of [our] world of thought is in a certain sense a flight away from the miraculous.
That percept did not arise in sense experience. Or so it seems to me.
Thank you ever so much for writing, dearest sister in Christ!
p.s.: Am still without my computer.... YIKES! :^(

Odd, I thought the Church Fathers were the door to Holy Orthodoxy.

May The Lord bless you with a super robust new system with megagigs of RAM etc. and a big wide flat panel screen. Dear brother in Christ, the Lord answered your pray for me last night! To a tee....
After three weeks of trying, a new motherboard, a new processor, etc., etc., my old beast still wouldn't work right. Finally the techies just decided that it wasn't worth any more time and trouble to try to fix it -- so gave me a brand-new machine with three times the RAM and a hard drive twice as large as my last. It's a simply beautiful machine!
So I'm "back in business"...
Thank you ever so much for your prayers, dear Quix!
All thanks and praise be unto our Lord!

PRAISE THE LORD.
Wasn’t quite sure what The Lord would do with the prayer.
However, it was one of the most earnest, heart felt and faith filled of recent praying! LOL.
Very blessed to hear of it.
