I cannot imagine a minister turning his back on even the most difficult member of his church.

Clearly, Kennedy had a priest who did not turn his back on him. To expect the Holy Father to function as a parish priest is silly.

I'm not expecting the Pope to act as a parish priest. But it seems to me those he personally receives, and the correspondence he personally accepts, warrants his personal attention.
