Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley of Boston will preside at the funeral of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy tomorrow at the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (the Mission Church). The Rev. J. Donald Monan, a Jesuit priest who was the longtime president of Boston College and is now the chancellor, will be the principal celebrant. And the Rev. Mark R. Hession, pastor of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Centerville, will deliver the homily.
PROGRAM DETAILS:
First Reading: Curran Raclin, stepson
Responsorial: Kara Kennedy Allen, daughter
Second Reading: Caroline Raclin, stepdaughter

Intercessory Prayers: Kennedy's four grandchildren, and the youngest grandchild of each of his siblings, will read quotes from his speeches. (The family chose to honor the youngest children because Kennedy was the youngest in his family.)
Offertory: Grandchildren
Music by Yo-Yo Ma
Communion
Music by Placido Domingo accompanied by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus
"Ave Maria" by Susan Graham of the Metropolitan Opera
Tribute: Edward M. Kennedy Jr. and US Representative Patrick J. Kennedy (sons)
Eulogy: President Obama
Song: America the Beautiful
ANALYSIS:
The family and church officials have essentially chosen to split the roles three ways. Cardinal O'Malley, because of his role as the archbishop of Boston, will technically preside over the funeral, but Fathers Monan and Hession, who had closer relationships with Senator Kennedy, will be far more visible to casual viewers of the liturgy. Monan will celebrate the Mass, which will include presiding over the congregation and reciting the prayers of the Mass and being at the center of the altar during the Eucharist. Hession will deliver the homily, and his task will be to take the readings of the day and apply them to the moment.

Are you Catholic?
Who would refuse to answer that simple question?
Do you profess the Catholic faith as set forth in the Catechism of the Catholic Church?
My wife is ROMAN Catholic, and attend Mass.
What bigotry by the way? My beef is with the individual Diocese, not the RCC as a whole, that accepted whatever it got for the Kennedy's pockets/influence. Do you deny that happened even after the Vatican rescinded and slapped down the Diocese in the case of Joe II?
Do you profess the Catholic faith as set forth in the Catechism of the Catholic Church?
The Church I go to now is small which is nice (On an AFB).
Nice talking to you, need to write do an airport pick-up. Sure the responses will be waiting for me. See ya.
I was right.
Netmilsmom, I was right.
I wanted to give O’Malley the benefit of the doubt. I have done so since he came to Boston. Now he has proven he is just another Bozo town buffoon.
You were right!
And nothing worse than an ex-Catholic to pull the bigotry out.
Thinly veiled, of course.
Seen it about a thousand times.
Spot on!
I can’t speak for you, but I think you knew it too.
Just spare yourself from the attacks coming my way by disagreeing.
I don’t care.
I’ll back you when we are right.
I am not an RCCer? Shocker, you are right, I am not a "Roman" (Just a Universal Christian) and in this diluted age of the Church being conformed to an infallible world why would I want to be confined to Roman arrogance (Example, being condemned for not following an ex cathdra proclamation "shouted" over a thousand years after the supposed fact, made up of shaky tradition which has extreme QUESTIONABLE foundations) If the early Church Fathers questioned the now dogma, it is good enough for anyone. I guess all those Holy men were grandfathered in, that of course would be the exclamation, yes.
exclamation = explanation
You're not Catholic.
I am not a "Roman"
Neither am I.
I'm Catholic.
You came back nearly a month later to post this?
Dude, I’m not going through the entire thread to please you. I stand by my words.
The Priest name is Arthur Bendixen and the diocese/Archbishop made a half-ass investigation which led to more kids being abused. Three Priests who had deeper knowledge of the situation stood up to the Archbishop, quit their current post, ordered to remain silent, and were shifted off. Found out later more kids were abused by the same Priest, then the Priest “escaped” to South America and the diocese could of cared less while they "slapped" him on the wrist.
Of course it is bigotry to point this out, would it help that Proddy Churches cover up their “sins” as well. Point is Church hierarchy (Not just talking about Romans) needs to be confronted, just like any other bureaucracy.
Another reason why I dropped the Roman from Catholic. If you call questioning Church leaders bigotry so be it, warped as it may be, everyone is entitled to an opinion. Just free in Christ, that is all one needs in the end. (Still attend RCC and support my wife's choice as well as my children, but I am a bigot)
