Sorry to rain on the "adoration," ... shalom

Mat 12:47-50 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. .... But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? .... And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! ..... For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

No rain on us ... just on you.

I hope your Bible includes the other 3 books. When Jesus asks, "Who are my mother, and sisters and brothers?," Jesus is not rebuking Mary in order to denigrate her. To the contrary, when Jesus' comments are read in light of Luke 8:5-15 and the parable of the sower which Jesus taught right before His question, Jesus is actually implying that Mary has already received the word as the sower of good ground and is bearing fruit. Jesus is teaching that others must, like Mary, also receive the word and obey it. esus' question about "who are my mother, and sisters and brothers" was also made in reference to Psalm 69:8-9. Jesus the Prophet was answering the psalmist's prophecy that those closest to Him would betray Him at His passion. Jesus is emphasizing the spiritual family's importance over the biological family, and the importance of being faithful to Him. While many were unfaithful to Jesus, Mary remained faithful to Him, even to the point of standing at the foot of the Cross. To suggest that Jesus rebuked Mary is to argue that Jesus violated the Torah, here, the 4th commandment. This argument is blasphemous because it essentially says that God committed sin by dishonoring His Mother.

No! Really? Is that in the Bible? Who would have thought it?

(Heavy sarcasm.)

I know one of the persistent slanders against Catholics is that they don't read the Bible. But this is a passage read from time to time in our services. It's not news to us.

More than that, it's incorporated into our spiritual thinking. You too, by the grace of God, can conceive love within you and, by that same grace, bring it into the world. What a calling we share!

All who hear the Word of God and believe, conceive that word in a place even deeper than the heart, and all of us are given the gift to bring Jesus to others. So we share in Mary's call, in the grace showered on her, and in her blessing, for with her and in Christ we are given what we need to do the will of the Father.

He did His first miracle at her request, in deference to her. His last thoughts before He died in agony were for the safety and welfare of His mother— and He gave her to the apostle He loved and trusted most.

You must be right; she meant absolutely nothing to Him.
