I know the discovery on the Indonesian island of Flores in 2003 that you are referring to. The discoverers took the work “hobbit” and applied it to a group of remains that suggest a diminutive race of human-relatives, or pre-humans. But they still aren’t Tolkien’s Hobbits, didn’t live in Hobbit Holes, didn’t have Shires, didn’t develop the custom of giving away gifts on their birthday. Didn’t develop “pipe weed”. Didn’t have to contend with the Dark Lord Sauron. (If you know what I mean.)

Square pegs do not easily fit into round holes. Mr. Smith, would you like to try again? Do you have an alternative explanation that makes a modicum of sense?

No, they didn’t have shires and they didn’t speak english and they didn’t dress up in old english gentleman clothing. But there is local legends that those little hairy guys survived until the 1800s. Look up “ebu gogo”. This is what the locals called these little people.

It’s hard to say. But it is possible that tolkien heard of the stories of the ebu gogo. He seemed to have a lot of knowledge of extinct people and foreigners’ legends of unusual peoples. So it is possible.

Great! Then we should discuss who was the better sci-fi writer-L Ron Hubbard or Joseph Smith. Daddy always said- “start a religion” Pax vobiscum.

I don’t see large flat hairy feet. Tolkein’s model was leprechauns.

But just for fun:

“After a few years, the self-appointed spokesman and protector of the Tasaday, Philippine politician Manuel Elizalde, built a wall to protect the Tasaday from outsiders and exploitation. Armed guards were stationed to keep out reporters and curious onlookers; only a handpicked very few were allowed to visit the “lost tribe.”

“But some who did manage to get in started having doubts about the Tasaday.

One linguist noted that the tribe had words such as “roof,” which would likely be unknown to the cave-dwelling Tasaday. Some reporters heard rumors that the Tasaday tribesmen were actually ordinary citizens from nearby villages.

Though there was some skepticism, the truth about the “lost tribe” of the Tasaday was not revealed until 1986, when Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos were removed from power.”

Many are called.... when needed for cash.. and a few are literally chosen.

The old con man, Joesph Smith came up with ficticious people, places and events and now scholars debate where all this took place. Hilarious !

AND, the "scholarly" articles are posted in closed threads on FR....inspiring the posting of open threads so these arcane claims can be discussed.

I find it mind-boggling to consider the number of man hours being spent on the research attempting to validate the claims of the con-man Joseph Smith!

Or a.....curelom!

curelom
According to the Book of Mormon, a "more especially useful" beast living, along with cumoms and elephants, in ancient America. No one knows for certain what a curelom or cumom looked like, but apologists have speculated that they may have been mammoths or mastodons, and that Joseph Smith knew no English word to use as translations from the Reformed Egyptian.

And yet this morning they all sit with eyes glazed over with that warm fuzzy feeling, knowing in their hearts that the church is true. No one reads, no one investigates, no one can get beyond the phony authoritarian liars that overwhelm with their religious battery on these poor humbled souls.

Did they have fur on the bottom of their feet?

The Book of Mormon is a load of lies. I hope that is sufficient to cover the potty language clause.
