For most of the "geniuses" who fail to see gospel progress, the main reason is with their comparative chronology. Your time frame of reference is too short. There were a handful of believers in the 1st century, and there are millions if not billions today. Most of the world’s societies were entirely pagan, completely devoid of light and truth. Not true today, by comparison.
While darkness may exist, it is nothing compared to the condition of the world 2 millennia ago.
Satan is bound and the gospel is going forward. Time is on the side of the divine Creator. He is bringing a people to Himself. How long that will take is entirely unknown to all of us.
The error of futurists is that they wish to know the unknowable, i.e., they wish to be God.
