I am tired of how some anti-Mormons here at FR, and other places, mis-use the history and teachings of my Church.
This was posted:::::::::
President John Taylor stated: "Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century." (Journal of Discourses, vol. 6, p.167);
Here is the part of the article not posted for you and as you read it, you will find that it does not say the things about my church that is implued by leaving out large parts of the text.
Please note, the address is to us, the LDS people, from one of the church leaders at the time, telling us that we are not doing what we should and that we must do better.
In no way is President Taylor saying what the original post says he is saying..
Notice how the jump the first part of the post into another sentence and into another thought.
The information is taken out of context and turned into an untruth.
I have put {{}} around the parts posted to make it easer to see the misuse of this document.

We have first to learn submission to the will of God ourselves, through various trials, persecutions, and the development of our weaknesses and imperfections, and thereby learn to appreciate the goodness and blessings that flow from him. We must see that we ourselves first learn obedience, and then teach others. But how can we teach others a lesson which we have not learned ourselves?
There is not nation now that acknowledges that hand of God; there is not a king, potentate, nor ruler that acknowledges his jurisdiction. We talk about {{ Christianity }}, but it {{ is a perfect pack of nonsense }}. Men talk about civilization; but I do not want to say much about that, for I have seen enough of it. Myself and hundreds of the Elders around me have seen its pomp, parade, and glory; and what is it? It is a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as corrupt as hell; {{ and the Devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work that the Christianity of the nineteenth century. }}
(Journal of Discourses, 26 vols. [London: Latter-day Saints' Book Depot, 1854-1886], 6: 167.)

And if you do not place your salvation in the hands of Joseph Smith, then why are you a member of the church he founded which claims to be the ONLY true church on the face of the earth?
Didn’t the missionaries tell you that little piece of “meat”?
Got the ring?
2 Corinthians 11:12-15 12. And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. 13. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
Been there...done that...read the Book...saw the movie...wore the garments.
Got the ring?
Yep. My CTR ring was in Hebrew.
Traded it in for the Cross.
Isaiah 44:6 I am the first and I am the last; beside me there is no god."
Fred.....please stop the lie.
Isaiah 45:5. I am the Lord, and there is no other, beside me there is no other God; I gird you
that men may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none beside me; I am the Lord, and there is no other.
So you left unitarianism for mormonism - one cult to another.
Who is telling you about all this - Joseph Smith - therefore it is from smith's mouth.
"
I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet...When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go." (History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408, 409) - Joseph Smith, during his lying polygamy denial sermon.
Deuteronomy 18:22 (King James Version) 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Careful, I just ran a search on LDS.org......Guess how many Conference talks refernce "History of the Church" ?

President Brigham Young had this to say concerning the birth of Christ: "The man Joseph, the husband of Mary, did not, that we know of, have more than one wife, but Mary the wife of Joseph had another husband" (Deseret News, October 10, 1866).
Galatians 1:6-10 (King James Version)
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Sounds like greek mythology to me.
LOL
Again omitting, skip over, like I never have said it hundreds of times on the FR forum.
I was witness by the power of the Holy Ghost that was most beautiful that the Book of Mormon was of the Lord, Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon is true.
About a week later I met the missionaries when they visit the apt building where I was working.
I did not call them they came to visit a tenant and I was the concierge and that is where I asked them questions after my conversion.
Any meat I receive I received from the Holy Spirit. I said things to the missionaries things because of the Holy Spirit and they was most amazed at how much I knew.
I heard my master voice and it was so sweet and delicious I knew I was no longer alone and that the words of the Lord was fulfilled here on the earth as it said in the Bible that mainstream continue to deny or dismiss the doctrine of the Lord Jesus Christ!
Eph 4
There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism
Apostles and prophets essential to the Church
Saints exhorted to live righteously
They are sealed unto the day of redemption.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have NOT so learned Christ;
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christs sake hath forgiven you.
and it was made known to him by vision and by the Holy Spirit. . . .
it was the will of God that they should be ordained to the ministry and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, for the coming of the Lord,
which was nigh
even fifty six years should wind up the scene."
(History of the Church, Vol. 2, page 182).
This prophecy was spoken by Joseph Smith in 1835, and recorded by Oliver Cowdery. The fifty-six years were passed by 1891.

You really can not ask this seriously can you?
Since the prophet did NOT live to 85...
15 Joseph, my son, IF thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter.
D&C 130: 14-17
14 I was once praying very earnestly to know the time of the coming of the Son of Man, when I heard a voice repeat the following:
15 Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter.
16 I was left thus, without being able to decide whether this coming referred to the beginning of the millennium or to some previous appearing, or whether I should die and thus see his face.
17 I believe the coming of the Son of Man will not be any sooner than that time.
So it's the Christian's fault Christ didn't return on time !!
Oh, that really takes the cake !!!
HAHAHAHA ...
Really ! :) :)
In the light of their understanding that God is a procreating personage of flesh and bone,
LOL
If I got it all befuddled as much you have stated I would left too.
