In order to attend BYU you are required to sign the honor code. If you break the honor code, you can be expelled. To my understanding, this is very similar to what the Air Force Academy, as well as the other military academies do. To meet the graduation requirements of BYU you have to live according to the honor code while you are a student there and complete the required courses. He failed to fulfill both of the requirements for graduation and therefore did not earn his diploma.

Pleas don’t compare a religion who’s members make a point of avoiding military service to the military Honor code.

If he didn’t complete the required courses, then obviously, I understand his not graduating. My thought was that if he had, which I thought was the case, then he should at least get his diploma.

He can always transfer and graduate from Utah or somewhere I suppose. I think this was all about the calendar. Their school, their rules.

Both? Could you expand on that in light of this:

"Hardy was excommunicated during the month between completing his courses and graduation ceremonies."

Right. I’m sure Jim McMahon followed that honor code when he was there. Oh, that’s right. He was helping them win a national championship so a “wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?” is OK.

Hitchens is right.
