Prior to Vatican II, a subdeacon was common knowledge to any Cathoic I imagine. They were major or higher order clergy along with deacons, priests and bishops in the Latin Church for centuries prior to 1972.
In fact, a subdeacon is involved in the High Traditional Latin Mass. Do you know Traditinal Latin Mass, Jo?
