the head of the USCCB’s Pro-Life Committee

Maybe it's my fault, but this is the first I've heard that the USCCB had a Pro-Life Committee! (And who exactly is the head? Does he choose to remain anonymous?)

Cardinal Justin Rigali is the Chairman of the USCCB Pro-Life Secretariat. He is also Archbishop of Philadelphia. He is one of those who have been outspoken lately, and his office has been vehement about opposing FOCA. Also under his leadership they have produced excellent prolife literature, posters and brochures for parishes, on the range of prolife topics (conception, assisted suicide, stem cell research, cloning). Many are free for downloads, and very nice pamphlets are cheap and clearly explain church teaching for the layperson.

He hasn’t always been what some trads would consider a “dream” Cardinal, but he cannot be faulted in this prolife area. I personally have dealt with the office in DC and they are helpful and positive. The fault is with individual bishops and parish priests who do not link into the Pro-Life Secretariat and avail themselves of the wealth of valuable info that they should be getting out to parishioners.

Here, just got this out of my desk: www.usccb.org/prolife
