The shroud doesn’t show a draped image, which be distorted, but a projected image.

Consider the width of your face from cheek to cheek as measured by a caliper. That’s projected, what you see in a photograph of yourself. Now consider the distance from cheek to cheek as measured by a string conforming to your face - that’s the draping, and it would be much wider than the projected image.

When I say "draped" I don't mean draped over the object, but rather, hung, as you would a set of curtains. Sorry about the confusion.
