It is my belief that indeed we won't wait for much longer. I have a friend who has a similar belief and expresses is well: Why Is the End of the World Inevitable?.

At the same time, the best thing we can do not only for ourselves but also ino rder to contribute to the betterment of the human race is to remember that our own judgement is surely within just a few decades at best, and live our lives accordingly.
