Well, they didn't call it "Koine" fer nuthin'. I think he spoke Greek. I bet a whole chunk of Jews in Israel did too. I knew an old Quechua lady who spoke Quechua, Spanish, and English. She didn't speak English well, but she made herself understood. I think we in our monolinguistic culture underestimate the ability of uneducated people to pick up languages.

When Gibson's movie came out I went a-hootin' off to one of my learned friends and complained. He agreed with me and said that rumor had it that Mel went with Latin because of something to do with his relationship to the Church.
