Sorry. I don’t know what other protestant churches do. I think it depends on their pastor. Sorry I can’t be of help there. We do study it on our own and get a chance to delve into it more deeply than we would just listening to it in church. We have our Bibles with us and use them when the pastor does his sermon, but what other churches do, I really don’t know.

My Catholic priest reads directly from the bible at every mass . What exactly do you mean, "just listening to the church." Have you ever been to a Catholic mass? It is the continuation of His Last Supper. It may not be fun and exciting, but it is certainly bible based and spiritually deep. To be honest with you, I've been a Catholic all my life, and didn't read anything from the Pope until I became an adult. The Encyclicals are absolutely beautifull. I missed out on a lot.
