So I am gussing that the carbon produced by the fire of the 1300’s would have ruined the entire shroud for dating purposes?
Fascinating stuff.
My favorite version is the one where it was created by Leonardo da Vinci (that “Da Vinci Code” guy) in the 1400’s by a now-unknown photographic-like process.
I have a feeling that the labs agreed to it because they suspect his theory will be disproven. As far as I remember, many in the Shroud community didn’t put much stock in the extra-carbon idea from the fire....the more promising challenge to the C-14 dating is whether it used a section of the Shroud that had been rewoven with medieval material.
But hey, I’m a scientific guy...test it out, see what happens! :)
Correction: alleged the shroud was a medieval forgery
Saw the exibit at the University of Califoria Jefferson campus in, I think, 1982. The were able to make a 3-d model out of the image in the cloth.
By the way, I took a friend, her son, and a priest. I drove there, the priest drove back. He took about half the time to get back as I took to get there. I have never been so scared in my life.
