When the Elders of Israel leave this place, and go forth among the wicked, it is not their privilege to mingle withthem in any of their worldly exercises; for if they do, the devil will obtainan advantage over them, and succeed in drawing them away from the path oftheir duty. For instance-suppose you and I, with many more of the brethren, meet together in a convenient place in the Valley, and dance to the sweetstrains of the violin: we could do so with a perfect good will: but if weshould be called to England, and there have an invitation to join with thewicked in their pastimes and recreations, and we in our feelings bow downto this, and suffer our spirits to be subject to their commandments, wesuffer ourselves to be ruled over by them, and at once become their servants Why I declare, it sounds to me as if the Lord, through his Prophet, thinks the English are wicked.
