When part of our group apostatizes, we separate from them. You let apostates continue on, and in some cases, cover it up.
For example, theological liberalism. Evangelical groups have split many times to disassociate themselves from liberalism. The RCC? They seem to let their liberals go on and on - untouched. Maybe there is an extremely rare excommunication, but theological liberalism is far more pervasive in the American Catholic church than it is in the Evangelical world.
