[Deuteronomy 34:7] And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

[John 3:13] And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

2 Kgs. 2: 11
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a achariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Matt. 17: 3
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

If Moses died, how was it he appeared to Christ and Peter and James? No one was resurrected BEFORE Christ was.

When Jesus was resurrected he had a physical body you could touch and then he ascended to heaven.

Moses died and returned in spirit form, he was not resurrected.

Matt. 17: 3 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. If Moses died, how was it he appeared to Christ and Peter and James? No one was resurrected BEFORE Christ was.

[Matthew 17:9] And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

Vision: 3705. horama (hor'-am-ah)something gazed at, i.e. a spectacle (especially supernatural.

A vision is something not real....something viewed supernaturally as John viewed in [Revelation 1:10]....being brought forward in time to see certain events as they will unfold!

Moses is in his grave awaiting the resurrection.

2 Kings. 2: 11 11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

Just where exactly did Elijah go? There are three heavens spoken of in scripture....the atmosphere where the birds fly is the first. [Genesis 27:28] Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine.

The second heaven is the expanse of God's universe....His creation. [Psalm 8:3] When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained.

The third heaven is where the throne of Our Lord is found and this is the heaven in which you find the Apostle John being caught up to in [Revelation 4:1-2]. This is the heaven to which Our Lord was referring when He said "No man has ascended here.....heaven!" [John 3:13]

Obviously Elijah was taken to the first heaven. God had wanted Elisha to take over from Elijah and Elisha was granted a double portion of spirit from Elijah (verse 9-10) on the condition he saw Elijah being taken away! [II Kings 2:3-5] And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace. And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho. And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

Well....Elisha did see Elijah taken away and the mantle was placed upon him....with great significance (verses 13-15). It was an insignia of the office of Prophet. They all knew that Elijah was just being removed from office and was not being supernaturally removed from this Earth. They were worried that he (Elijah) might have been dropped on some mountain or a valley somewhere (verse 16).

Several years later King Jehoram receives a letter from Elijah [II Chronicles 21:2] speaking of these events as something happening in the past and the punishment as something yet in the future. This dispels the idea that Elijah wrote this letter before being taken up in the air in a whirlwind.

[Hebrews 11:32] And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets. Elijah was a prophet and these all died in the faith (Verse 13). Elijah did not go to heaven!
