How do the different sects (denominations?) of Christians recognize other Christians?
The Nicene Creed is an very good start.
Comments from the GRPL swarm?
By the belief in the one true God, who has been forever, and his son Jesus who died for our sins and the Bible is the infallible Word of God. No wiggle room.
Mormons believe that God was once a man like them and ascended to “godship” just as some Mormons will do. They also place the Book of Mormon above the Bible as pathway to salvation. To Christians God has always been and will always be.
Mormons will talk with you and use many terms Christian use but they do not mean the same. Like the pathway to salvation to them means a totally different thing than what it means to Christians.
There are plenty more differences.
Most of us use our eyes...
All kidding aside, the most common way to identify a Christian is their core belief in Christ as the Lord and Savior, coupled with and understanding of the Holy Trinity. (IOW, we do not become gods in our own right upon death)
Also, the Bible was Canonized with the understanding that it shall not be added to. Ever.
The Book of Mormon defies that edict.

If someone tells me that they are going to become a god and rule their own world, I can easily recognize that they aren't a Christian.
Well, scripture is pretty clear about what true Christianity is all about and since MOST Christians read and study the Bible, they should be able to see what’s true and what’s false. The Holy Spirit teaches us as well.
Not with great approval, obviously, given that there are hundreds of them.
I never cease to be amazed by the great numbers of fools here who have taken it upon themselves to define and codify Christianity from their own limited and quite often ignorant point of view.
Sort of like a bunch of schoolyard brats chanting "My Jesus could whup your Jesus." And such does not even begin to include the inhumanity visited on a grand scale over the centuries by self-proclaimed arbiters of "mainstream Christianity" against non-Christians and Christians who do not meet the criteria of those who would wickedly other childen of God.
These they label and villify as cultists and "lost sheep" to the scrap pile in a manner that is anything but Christ-like.........
I have nothing bad or disapproving to say about whatever faith that guides your life or those of other here and wish you well in your search for truth, growth, and happiness.......
Ecumenical Councils.
“when was “Christian Understanding” Christian Theology or the Nature of Christianity codified...how was this determined?”
It doesn’t need to, we can read.
