If so, could you recommend the writings of anybody who was a member or leader of Christ's Church in, say, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 12th, and 14th centuries, so I can get a historic perspective on how Christ's Church has fared over the two millennia of its existence? Would you accept a democrat's view of how the state of the union has fared during a Republican administration? I didn't think so.

3 Ne. 27:
33
And it came to pass that when Jesus had ended these sayings he said unto his disciples: Enter ye in at the strait gate; for strait is the gate, and narrow is the way that leads to life, and few there be that find it; but wide is the gate, and broad the way which leads to death, and many there be that travel therein, until the night cometh, wherein no man can work.
That looks quite similar to this Scripture from The New Testament:
Matthew 7:13 " Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
It looks like the author of Ne. 27 read this in the Bible and changed it a bit and then published it.
Is that how this happened?
Thanks

I can say thankful for the restored Chruch of Jesus Christ
because when we read the scriptures our minds are able to discern things that one who had not the standard would be able to know!
Matt. 5:
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so,
he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:
Telestial glory.
but whosoever shall do and teach them, t
he same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

if you think they somehow undermine the unique prominence of Peter as leader, spokesman, one could even say as Jesus' lieutenant among His twelve picked men...
But, it hasn't been proved that he WAS the "leader, spokesman, or lieutenant", but that he was like the little kid in class who ALWAYS had his hand up first; whether he had the correct answer or not.

If so, could you recommend the writings of anybody who was a member or leader of Christ's Church in, say, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 12th, and 14th centuries, so I can get a historic perspective on how Christ's Church has fared over the two millennia of its existence?Nope.
But I sure CAN recommend some OTHER writings...
(You knew I could ;^)
NIV John 20:9
(They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
NIV Luke 24:26-28
26. Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?"
27. And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what was said in all the
28. the Scriptures concerning himself.
NIV Luke 24:32
They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?"
NIV John 2:22
After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
NIV John 5:39-47
39. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me,
40. yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
41. "I do not accept praise from men,
42. but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
43. I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
44. How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God ?
45. "But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.
46. If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
47. But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?"
NIV John 7:42-43
42. Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?"
43. Thus the people were divided because of Jesus.
NIV Acts 8:26-35
26. Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road--the desert road--that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."
27. So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,
28. and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet.
29. The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."
30. Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.
31. "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32. The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
33. In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth."
34. The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?"
35. Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
NIV Matthew 21:42-43
42. Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "`The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone ; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes' ?
43. "Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

The author and editor was God!
Jesus Christ is the one giving revelations to his prophets.
There are scriptures in the NT that are similar to the OT.

It is a bit of a mystery to me though what his works were. Be mystified no mre!
John 6:28-29
28. Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
29. Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

"Would you accept a democrat's view of how the state of the union has fared during a Republican administration? I didn't think so." I would assume that if both Democrats and Republicans exist at the same time, they spoke, wrote, interacted --- and to get a fair understanding of the history, you'd have to read about their ideas and ther inteeractions.
So, I'm looking for a fair understanding of the history of the church founded by Jesus Christ.
I renew my request: could you recommend the writings of anybody---anybody--- who was a member or leader of Christ's Church in, say, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 12th, and 14th centuries, so I can get a historic perspective on how this Church has fared over the two millennia of its existence?

He ( they ) just will not answer a yes or no question. Just like a politican in a debate. Avoid being pinned down and defined.
The last set of missionaries that came to my house a few years back had the same problem.
