Is this a rumour or the offical line: the Catholic Church to which I belong, states that the Mormons are a cult, can someone confirm or deny this?

The Catholic Church does not consider Mormon baptisms to be valid due to their difference in understanding the Trinity.

I do not think the Catholic Church throws around the term "cult" as it comes from the Latin "cultus" which means religion. Of course in English the word cult has its own connotations.

Well, scripture is pretty clear about what true Christianity is all about and since MOST Christians read and study the Bible, they should be able to see what’s true and what’s false. The Holy Spirit teaches us as well.

Hmmmmmm....

And we also testify that we have seen the engravings which are upon the plates; and they have been shown unto us by the power of God, and not of man

Yes, they are. God changed his name from Abram to Abraham.

But they also use the Book of Mormon, which is ‘their’ bible.

It is not his Morman faith that disturbs most people, it is that he is one more RINO America does not need.

America needs to return to "Federalism" as its rightful form of Government. Fred Thompson promotes Federalism as his platform.

[in relation to a previous posters refutation of Mormon backstory] Oh, so I guess you were there and a first-hand witness, eh? You must be getting on in years

Same argument could be made of the Bible as well. Just saying.

Would you trust a guy that places two rocks in a hat, covers his face with said hat, and dictates (ahem, translates) an alleged religious work that is not even in his presence?

Yup. Trusting their very spiritual lives to the vision of a 14-year-old, who on his word alone, concludes that every single creed of non-LDS churches are "an abomination before the Lord." (Not to mention concluding that all Christian "professors" of their faith are "corrupt." )

LOL... you pinged to a caucus thread..

The RM said on that thread:"The thread should be treated as if it were an LDS church meeting behind closed doors.

So, are you trying to open to door, to circumvent the RM, while avoiding the fact that mormonism does not have its faith rooted in the biblcal God, or are you just trying to be sneaky?

Yes, they are a cult because they don’t follow the true Christian faith, but their people are good people and usually moral and upright. Their teachings are just off the wall.

This is where you lose them. They want to hijack Christian terminology so they can confuse you when you try and confront them so they can say “we believe the same thing”. No we do not.

Origin of the phrase Phony As A Three Dollar Bill

While it is common knowledge that Joseph Smith founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, few know of his attempt to found a bank in Kirtland, Ohio.

Which version? If the Bible is the infallible Word of God then I want to make sure I have the infallible version.

The infallible Bible is the original text taught and preserved. The "versions" come about through changes in language and translation (or outright heresy as in the case of the "homosexual" bible et al). It's not that the old text changes, rather our modern language is evolving and it can take different words to express the same thought. Unfortunately, some times these different words are then interpreted differently...

It was actually an “anti-bank”, because Old Joe could not get authority to set up his bank to comply with contemporary banking regulations.

Mormons do not believe they are saved by grace alone either or they would not be required to do good works

You are correct in that mormons do not believe Jesus will save people IN their sins, rather FROM their sins. Semantics here are very important. Mormons believe we ARE saved by grace, after all we can do. Now "all we can do" is not a rigid definition, i.e. not everyone's "all" is the same. We are judged individually and perfectly, so what may be sufficient as far as effort for one may fall short for another. Again, I think the best way the belief is caputured is the differentiation in the meaning of saved "in sin" versus "from sin."

Joseph Smith was also a defrocked Freemason who was thrown out for trying to make Freemasonry into a religion. Many of the secret Mormon rituals parrot the Masonic rituals, so I have been told.

I thought Maroni was a kind of spaghetti.

Seriously, I don’t give a tinker’s damn if Romney believes all this stuff or not. All I care about is his ability to serve as an effective leader and his personal morality and his views on the issues. I think he is a capable leader with a proven track record as such and a man of outstanding personal morality.

Although he is not my first choice on the issues as I support Hunter and Thompson, I would most vigorously campaign for him gainst any of the fruitcakes sitting in the Mad Baker’s Shop called the Democrat Party.
