Adam was neither mortal nor immortal. He was created with a potential for both.

There is no error in Genesis 6. But all attempts to rationalize God lead to error

Genesis 6:6 says that God "repented." If God repents (grieves), then His will is not perfect; He makes mistakes; He changes his mind. If He doesn't repent, then genesis 6:6 is in error.

Unfrotunately, the bible is wishy-washy about this. The preponderence of scriptural evidence is that God does repent!  (using KJV language).

According to the Bible, God repents in:

    1. Gen 6:6, "And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart."
    2. Exodus 32:14 "And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people."
    3. Deuteronomy 32:36:  "For the Lord shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants."
    4. 1 Sam 15:11: "It repenteth me [God] that I have set up Saul to be king."
    5. 1 Sam 15:35: "The Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel. "
    6. 2 Sam 24:16: "The Lord repented of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, it is enough: stay now thine hand."
    7. 1 Chron 21:15: "The Lord beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. "
    8. Jer 15:6: [the Lord says] "I am weary of repenting."
    9. Jer 18:8:  [the Lord says] "I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them."
    10. Jer 26:3 [the Lord says] "That I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them."
    11. Jer 42:10: [the Lord says] "For I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you."
    12. Amos 7:3,6: "The Lord repented for this."
    13. Jonah 3:10: "God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them."

However, the Bible also claims (in fewer cases) that God doesn't repent in:

    1. Num 3:19: "God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of a man that he should repent."
    2. 1 Sam 15:29: "The Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent."  [contrast with 1 Sam 15:11, 35 where the same author says God does repent!]
    3. Eze 24:14: "I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent."
    4. Malach 3:6: "For I am the Lord, I change not. "
    5. James 1:17: "With whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. "

These are biblcal facts. The rest is conjecture.

Faith and reason are complementary, but reason cannot substitute for faith.

If God repents (grieves), then His will is not perfect; He makes mistakes; He changes his mind. If He doesn't repent, then genesis 6:6 is in error.

The above statement applies Aristotle's Law of the Excluded Middle (either/or) to God - and by doing so anthropomorphizes God into a small "god" the puny, mortal mind can comprehend.

Laws of logic - as with other mathematics and science, such as space and time and physical laws - are part of the Creation, not limitations/descriptions of the Creator.

That a clay pot does not speak does not mean the maker of the clay pot does not speak.

That the clay pot has a certain form does not mean the maker of the clay pot has the same form.

That the clay pot is made of clay does not mean the maker of the clay pot is also made of clay.

and so on...

For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. - Isaiah 55:8-9

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. - Matthew 22:29

Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: - Luke 24:25

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane [and] vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace [be] with thee. Amen. - I Timothy 6:20-21

See also Job 38-42:

Then Job answered the LORD, and said, I know that thou canst do every [thing], and [that] no thought can be withholden from thee. Who [is] he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor [myself], and repent in dust and ashes. - Job 42:1-6

Oh, and by the way, the Law of the Excluded Middle does not hold everywhere in the physical creation either. In wave/particle duality - whether we see a particle or a wave depends on the observer/observation.

To God be the glory!

That’s a very interesting listing that, as we see from the responses, raises some interesting questions.

thanks for your post..
