Actually, they do. They always have and they never stopped believing it. A long time ago, the Soutbern Baptists in Alabama published a demographic survey, in which, they took the numbers of people who we could calculate as officially belonging to each church, they divided it by the population in each county, and they determined, with “scientific zeal”, the proportion of people in each county who were going to hell.

They defined Catholics, Lutherans, Episcopalians, and pretty much any Christian denomionation that did not buy into their crap as among the groups that would be going to hell.

But yes, they actually teach their children that. They teach them that we are somehow a Satanic religion because we don’t condemn drinking or gambling, and I suspect they also condemn us because we don’t listen to their Gospel radio stations 24/7 and watch their TBN. After Katrina, a disaster that actually affected this state, a member of the state legislature from the Northern part of the state implied that Katrina was God’s wrath on a “sinful coast”. The coast is Catholic, and even though this dimension of his remark was lost by the general disgust at it, I think he was clearly saying that the coast got hit with Katrina cause it was Catholic.

But to answer your question, yes, they actually believe it.

What IDOL do we Catholics worship?

Would this qualify?

Since 1149, the Basilica of the Holy Blood in Bruges has housed a fragment of cloth stained with what is said to be the coagulated blood of Christ, wiped from his body after the crucifixion by Joseph of Arimathea.

The relic is embedded in a rock-crystal vial, which itself is inside a small glass cylinder adorned with a golden crown at each end. Normally the relic is kept in a magnificent tabernacle, on which is an image of the "lamb of Christ," on a side altar in the upstairs chapel.

The sacred relic is brought out regularly so that the faithful can kiss it, and every year, in the colorful Procession of the Holy Blood on Ascension Day, the bishop of Bruges carries the relic through the streets, accompanied by costumed residents acting out biblical scenes.
