You do understand, I trust, that the canon of scriptures you read, at least the part not monkeyed with by the reformers to conform with the dictates of a council of Jewish elders in the late 1st century, was put together by a council of beared Greek speaking bishops of The Church sitting around saying, "This is in, this is out." don't you?

"The teachings of these inspired writers can be understood by the common people. We do not need official interpreters to understand the word, but we should use the word to check out the teachers!"

I take it the Eunuch's problem in Acts 8 is a fluke or some sort of slam on the intellectual ability of Ethiopians?

I think it extraordinarily merciful -- almost Providential, you might say -- of God to put off inventing Turks until after the canon and the major theological questions were nailed down. When there was nothing left to fight about there, God saw the Greeks were getting, ah, well, you know, like Greeks, restive you might say, so he brought in the Turks to keep 'em occupied and battle-ready (and to spare the rest of us).

(I'm assuming you know the Kazantzakis story about Greeks and Turks?)
