Do you think a Judean from Christ's time is the same as a Jew today? I don't. I think the Judeans were one tribe of Israelites who with the Benjamites and some Levites settled in Judea.

That's why I think so much of what many religious people in America think is going on in Israel today, especially regards their "end-times" thinking is pretty ridiculous and far off the mark. Creates a confusion which will soon lead to chaos and will provide a perfect opportunity for those men who would be gods to establish their reign. I find it scary.

An incredibly brilliant observaton, IMO.

There cannot be Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is no male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)

I don't. I think the Judeans were one tribe of Israelites who with the Benjamites and some Levites settled in Judea.

[2 Chronicles 11:1] And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

The above scriptures shows the Southern Kingdom of Judah (Judah and Benjamin) at war against Israel, the Northern Kingdom. Israel later on is exiled to Assyria: [II Kings 17:6] In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. And verse 18 says: Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. And as pointed out, Benjamin was part of Judah.

You can search the scriptures and will not find any mention of the Northern Ten Tribes returning from their Assyrian captivity. You will, however see that Judah returns from their Babylonian captivity after only 70 years. They were taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar here: [II Kings 25:7] And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon> and verse 21 confirms the people themselves as: And the king of Babylon smote them, and slew them at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah was carried away out of their land.

Ezra and Nehemiah both chronicle the return of Judah (Jews) from the Babylonian captivity: [Ezra 1:5] Then rose up the chief of the fathers of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, with all them whose spirit God had raised, to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem.

The Southern Kingdom was referred to as Judah....but was composed of Judah, Benjamin and their share of the priestly tribe of Levi.....and of course any and all Israelites that migrated there before the Assyrian captivity to escape the Apostasy of Israel. During the first century they were know collectively as Judea.....or the Jews.
