Excellent references there.

The Catholic Church, while not "named" in the Bible, was established by Christ Himself when He built His Church upon the rock known as Peter...our first Pope.

Peter was never your first Pope, and was never in Rome. Like I said....the scriptures show the Church of God to be the first church.

Can you provide a scriptural reference of the Apostle John being the Lord's cousin, because I am not aware of one.

**Some of the things mentioned in the article reminds me of the old days when a newbie would jump into the Neverending Story thread. LOL!

Yah, I remember we would beat up some of them pretty bad. Some who survived became worthwhile contributors while the others just faded away**

That's back to the time I came on line. After visiting the thread several times I decided to let you guys have your fun! LOL! I wonder who else remembers those days??

This thread definitely has all the makings of a never-ending thread. Undead all the way!

**What's a nice lady like you doing on a thread like this?**

But some of us have been here almost from the start! Are we OK too?

No, the founders of your "movement" - the "Church of God" are 20th century con artists. This hollow protestant...and that's what you are if you're not Catholic or Orthodox...argument is simply silly.

So the problem wasn't with the request coming through the Queen Mother, but with the request itself.

Actually I think the problem was with Queen Mother Bathsheba. Was she absolutely clueless? What was she thinking? Needless to say, I'll bet that was her first and last request.

Frank Sheed asked that question, trisham comes to keep us all company when we expose heresies! :-)

An undead thread just keeps going and going and going. Lots of sidebar topics. Some go back to the original post. But mostly it's the sidebars.

Witness:
Kids misbehaving in church
Dusting/cleaing an altar/church
now bifocal or trifocals, levorlor or otherwise

Despite my age, (and always having worn glasses,) I would like to wear contacts. They have done so much with them since my kids were young. But then I have allergies, and I don't know if my eys could handle it.

But I haven't had that for a penance for a long time. Said it today, however.

The cleaning of the altar was in reference to the picture I posted in 561 that looks awfully "Catholic" to me (Crucifix, statues and all).

Matthew 16:18 And "I say also unto thee, That thou art
Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the
gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

The name Peter does mean rock but he was not the rock the church was founded on. Peter was a movable rock.

"This", in upon THIS rock, is referring to Jesus Himself, The Rock, the foundation stone. Peter was neither the foundation nor the builder. Our church is founded on Christ, Son of God, not on a man.

We've gone through this on other threads. Are you even aware of the translation for Peter?

And Christ was talking about his Church, the Catholic Church, which has withstood over 2 millenia of attacks and is still here. Remember he gave the keys of the kingdom to Peter and said, "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Don't think I've gotten my scripture passages mixed up here.)

The Church was founded by the Lord on Peter and his confession. Other denominations have been founded by men from the early 16th century onward.

Prayer ping to all readings this thread!

I got this FReepmail from Mad Dawg and sent it to the prayer warriors, but I think he would appreciate your prayers too, since his surgery was today.

Could you ask the brethren to keep me in their prayers for a little? I'm having foot surgery (on both feet!) on Monday, and trying to discern (at the invitation - nagging - of others) if I have vocation to the third order Dominicans.

Just send him a FReepmail -- Salvation

Hey, that picture of a church that you posted backed in the 600s (I think) -- where was it? Sure was beautiful. I know we have a whole sidebar of conversation going about how to dust/clean it. LOL!

I know I wouldn't want to be the one who cleans it. Looks like a Catholic Church - right? crucifix, altar, statues??

The church picture I posted is Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. It is the church where Luther posted the 95 Theses and his tomb is at the alter. It is where the Reformation started, yet it still looks totally Catholic. The hatred of Crucifixes, statues, etc. is a modern invention that came about when mainstream Protestants realized there was no reason to hate Catholics.

Thank you for your reply and no, I wasn't aware of this on other threads or of the translation for Peter.

My understanding is Peter's confession is the foundation to which Christ referred - 16:16 "And Simon Peter answered and said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Why then would the church (by that I mean Christians) base their foundation on a man and not on Jesus? Yes, Christ did give the keys to Peter. Does that mean the church would be founded on him, a man? My reference isn't about denominations at all, it is about who all Christians worship.

What did Christ say to Peter? It is founded on Christ and through Peter's answer to the questions that Christ asked, after Peter answered, then Christ put out other admonitions, instructions.

For example,

Christ: "Do you love me?"

Peter: Yes, Lord, you know I love you.

Christ: Then tend my sheep.

Can someone help me out on the other two quotes. I'm not remembering right now.
