El Paso: St. Francis to leave Episcopal Church USA

El Paso's St. Francis on the Hill became the first Episcopal church in the city and the second in the denomination's Rio Grande diocese to initiate a split with the Episcopal Church USAÊover significant theological differences Sunday.

Parishioners of St. Francis voted 96 to 9 in support of a four-part resolution to immediately remove "Episcopal" from all communications and to embrace an Anglican identity andÊto cut off contributions to the diocese headquarters in Albuquerque if it does not move away from the Episcopal Church USA and toward the Anglican Communion in February.

There are seven Episcopal churches in El Paso, the largest of which is the 120-year-old St. Clement's Episcopal Church near Downtown.

Dear Ms. Jefferts Schori:

I have read your correspondence with the Bishop of the Diocese of San Joaquin in California, and it has confirmed to me one thing about you: that you are a hypocrite and a Pharisee of the most dangerous sort.

You have repeatedly spit in the face of Christ and at many millennia of God's Word:

* When you publicly called Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, a woman.
* When you supported the election of the homosexual bishop, Gene Robinson.
* When you said that Jesus is not the only way to God and implied that all religions are equal, you espoused a relativist worldview.

Yet you proclaim that you are in the right and that Jesus is in the wrong.

Frankly, I believe that it is you...and many others...in the leadership of The Episcopal Church of the United States who have violated your own vows, and for your blatantly public contempt for Christ and for the Church, you ought to resign your post.

Believe me when I say that my generation is not abandoning The Episcopal Church...rather, The Episcopal Church has abandoned us. Mark my words: within a a generation, you will be leading a ghost flock, if even that.
