Jesus—In a Season of Glitz
The merchandizing world has been planning for Christmas since January and is about to overwhelm us with an advertising blitz. And soon the season will be in full swing with traditional gatherings, company and school parties, greeting cards, decorations…
Yet in the midst of the breathless hustle and bustle stands Jesus, almost obscured, but not quite. And for those who have eyes to see him, Christmas provides a rare cultural opportunity to point him out to others who can’t see him (yet).
This Christmas we want to help you reach out to your neighbors, your co-workers, and those who visit your church. John Piper’s book, Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ, is not a “Christmas book” per se. It is simply a meditation on Jesus Christ. But the chapters are short and the tone is worshipful. It is a refreshing look at Jesus in season of glitz.
Our prayer is that many believers and unbelievers will read this book. And we pray that afterwards, when they sing “O come let us adore him, Christ, the Lord,” they will be filled with new wonder and deeper joy.
Our church has a case of a John Piper book for give-a-ways during witnessing.
For those whom are not familiar, John Piper is a Reformed minister that God has gifted with great enthusiasm.
