We have absolutely no need for any "vicar" of Christ, because we have Christ. So, there's absolutely no need for the Catholic Church at all? The Vatican should just close down? Thanks for clearing that up for us.

What's being lost in all of this, I think, is that the actual claim made was that God appointed Christ to be the Vicar of Christ, which makes no sense at all.
