Automated program giving responses to typed input, for one example, as I understand it.
You're hoist on your own petard by the dictionary reference you gave. You must be getting tired.
I read the King James Version and it ain't in there.
1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
That doesn't leave much wiggle room for anyone else.
That reasoning. You seem to use the absence of the term 'catholic' from the NT as evidence that the early Church was not the Catholic Church. But, as I just pointed out, that same reasoning would entail that there were no Christians at least until the Gospel reached Antioch.

Thank you.
Well if you have ever prayed for anyone else, the you have just contradicted yourself.

Then why does it say to obey those who have rule over you as they are watching out for your souls? And I might add you're in for little trouble with St. Paul here about representation of Christ.
"For, what I have pardoned, if I have pardoned any thing, for your sakes have I done it in the person of Christ." 2nd Cor. 2:10
5: For there is one God, and one mediator of God and men, the man Christ Jesus: 6 Who gave himself a redemption for all, a testimony in due times.
No one claims the Pope is a mediator for redemption, nor should they.
But as Christ appointed him, so shall he and his successors lead.
Being that I have a library of religious books, I have a KJV right before me and it most certainly does say "The Gospel According to ST. John" at the beginning of St. John's gospel.
What about James 5:16?
We weren't talking about John. We were talking about Peter.
Impossible. My position was posting scripture and I didn't contradict it. Further, scripture says:
Jam 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
If you believe that scripture is contradicting itself then you are wrong because scripture can't contradict itself.
"No one claims the Pope is a mediator for redemption, nor should they."
What about forgiveness of sins?
Well simple logic should tell you that if John is a Saint, then so is Peter. He's called a Saint in the Catholic Bible, but I can understand why you Protestants wouldn't want to bestow that title on him in your KJV. Evidence in this thread alone proves how desperate some of you are to tear down his status.
As I pointed out in post #578 the early Church was never called the Catholic Church. It was called "The Church of God". The reason there is an absence of the name Catholic Church in scripture is, as I have pointed out....in the same post, Our Lord asked the Father to keep the name of the Church in His name [John 17:11]. The New Testament bears this out....twelve times in scripture.
You can wish and hope all you want.....the Catholic Church is a far cry from the Church described in scripture.
there were no Christians at least until the Gospel reached Antioch.
You are correct....They were called Christians first at Antioch [Acts 11:26].
"Well simple logic should tell you that if John is a Saint, then so is Peter."
I only know what the Bible tells me.
What about it?
I'm just reading this thread and had no plans to even post, but I must say this. I am a Protestant. I attend a non-denominational church. That's just for the record. With that out of the way, I must say, replacing the most Holy name, the Name above all names, the name of our King and Risen Saviour with the initials "JC" is extremely offensive and downright disrespectful. His Name is to be revered. If we treated His name with the reverence it deserved, we would bow in worship to it every time it was spoken. Please, do not make the name of Jesus out to be no more than "JC". His name is so much more than that. If you were only aware of the holiness of and the power within His name....
Who is final arbritrator for the forgiveness of sins?
