My 6-year-old is very interested in reading non-fiction stuff. We're currently dealing with the whole evolution/dinosaur/millions and millions of years stuff.
Problem is getting to be that he can read when Mom and Dad change the text...
I understand there never has been a good definition of "gopher wood."
We are attuned to thinking of 6000 years in earth/human time.
What is the equivalent of 6000 earth years in "God time"?

I always found when raising my two boys that a good historically accurate movie was always a good place to start to peak their interest. I would recommend one like Mel Brooks', "History of the World, Part I" or his and Carl Reiner's "Interview with the 2,000 year Old Man" for starters.
"Who is it, Lord?"
"Judas!!"
"What?!?!"
"Would you like the mulled wine? It's stupendous!"
Just like in the Bible. ;-)
Thanks for the ping, guys. I've been following Cornuke's work for a few years now, and I'm looking forward to see what other information is forthcoming.
Reg Lyle, oil and gas geologist . . .
They did:
Even more intriguing, some of the wood-like rocks were tested just this week and actually proved to be petrified wood . . .
IF this is it that would be ironic and a wonder in itself. The secrets of the Bible hidden among those who do not believe. I read "The Gold of Exodus" which is what they think is most likely Mt Sinai not in Egypt and not in what was Egypt then the traditional site. It was more likely a true actual exodus into Iraq and a true crossing of the Red Sea at the Gulf of Aquaba. I have a CIA {not kidding} area satellite photo I can't link that shows the region and the shallowness of the Gulf at the point they think the crossing occurred. I'm keeping an open mind but the evidence they showed about MT Sinai IMO was convincing and more true to scripture than Constantine's declared location in the Sinai Peninsula which even at the time of the Exodus was still inside Egypt. The nation of Israel wandering 40 years in Iraq's wilderness? Very realistic.
You don't need to throw out insults. The geologist didn't go with them. He is commenting about the photos.
Any geologist can quickly recognize that this rock is not from wood and is not related in any way to an 'ark'.
Ah, but this is a mere assertion. Where are the micrographs that show cellular structures as found in genuine petrified wood? In view of the fact that the pictures show commonplace weathered shale, complete with color variations on the surface due to mineral oxidation, that is so similar to hundreds or thousands of similar outcrops, the burden of proof lies squarely on the shoulders of the ark proponents.
Indeed. What is a dead give-away is that people come out and say "we found the Ark!" Real archaeologists NEVER do that. They are even extremely reticent to identify prehistoric sites with historic cultures.
The proper response to a discovery like this...if it is ever made...is to say "we found the remains of a large ship dating from such-and-such an archaeological period".
Is it the ark? We would ask.
We don't know, they'd say in all honesty. Perhaps--it matches the size, time, and place--but we can't say for sure it is the same ship.
for reference
Definition of "gopher wood": what Vermonters do alot of in February.
LOL.
Some for us rural folks in S. Ohio.
LOL and good morning!
Speaking of 6000 years...
I thought you'd find this very interesting.

On the Roots of Mankind
"With the help of a statistician, a computer scientist and a supercomputer, Olson has calculated just how interconnected the human family tree is. You would have to go back in time only 2,000 to 5,000 years - and probably on the low side of that range - to find somebody who could count every person alive today as a descendant.
Furthermore, Olson and his colleagues have found that if you go back a little farther - about 5,000 to 7,000 years ago - everybody living today has exactly the same set of ancestors. In other words, every person who was alive at that time is either an ancestor to all 6 billion people living today, or their line died out and they have no remaining descendants.
That revelation is "especially startling," statistician Jotun Hein of England's Oxford University wrote in a commentary on the research published by the journal Nature.
You do understand, do you not, that one cannot possibly be a real geologist and accept the biblical texts as authoritative and accurate at the same time? /s
