I was pondering what the seven letters in the word Lepanto could represent and came up with the following -->
L = Laurel. The laurel is a symbol of victory.
E = Emancipation. The galley slaves in the Turkish ships were Christian. They were freed.
P = Pope. The Holy Father Pope St Pius V was the inspiration for this holy crusade.
A = Avenge. This crusade was in part to avenge the wrongs commited against Christendom by the Muslims since the 7th century when they first left Arabia.
N = Naval. Lepanto was a great naval battle.
T = Triumph. The outcome was a great Catholic triumph.
O = Our Lady. It was only through her intercession that victory was made possible.

Shouldn't the "p" stand for patriotism, just like the one in democrat?

Pat Noel suggests itself as an anagram but it might strike some as a double entendre, no?

Huh, never put that much thought into it before.
I do know that 9/11 is the anniversary of the Battle of Zenta, the last major land battle where the Turks were driven out of Europe. G.K. Chesterton said that no good Christian should ever forget the date September 11.
Funny thing, we started bombing Afghanistan on the anniversary of Lepanto.
Also, I always thought this was cool, a friend of mine who is in the Secret Service said that Mrs. Jeb Bush made a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe during the whole 2000 election fiasco. The Supreme Court handed its decision ending the recounts on the December 12th, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Saddam was captured on December 12th as well.

It's been suggested to me that Don John ought to be mentioned so -->
T = Triumph. The outcome was a great Catholic triumph under the command of Don John, the mighty right arm of Jesus and Mary.
