There are also Catholics who pride themselves on being "rationalist" because they look to the clear and rational exposition of Thomas Aquinas.
When I point out that I am an admirer of Thomas as well and that like Thomas I believe that the Scripture is completely literally inerrant and that this complete literal inerrance is the foundation on which all correct exposition of the Scripture is founded, I sometimes get a reaction of confused annoyance.
In any case, the deconstruction of Scripture is quite useless, since it amounts to making what is wriiten in the Bible dependent on a historical record that is largely hypothetical.
