"I'm looking forward to being in Poland. I've just heard so many stories about the pickpockets, etc. that it is a little frightening to even think about it."

I live in highland village so i have no problem with pickpockets, but in cities those things sometimes happens. However this is no reason to be afraid, just keep eye on your bags :)

"I believe we will be safe, but I have definitely taken to being more alert to everything around me. (and not getting distracted!)"

This is always good idea.

"Were you able to see Pope Benedcit XVI when he visited Poland?"

No, i was working these days :/ I only watched tv relations.

There's no need to be "Apprehensive" simply because this is your first trip outside the Continental United States.

As long as you are not travelling to volatile countries in the Middle East, Asia, South- Asia, South-East Asia, there is virtually nothing to fear.

All the same you need to be alert. That is the best advice, I or anyone can give you.

Moreover, you will be travelling with a group so you will be definitely much safer than if you were travelling alone.

Finally, I will say a prayer for you.

Here is a Link to the Official Web Site of the "Infant Jesus of Prague".

The Shrine to the Infant Jesus of Prague is situated within the precincts of Our Lady of Victory Church, Czech Republic

Check out their site before you leave.
