As a former Catholic teacher, I am stunned that there are Catholic teachers out there promoting this book. They are obviously oblivious to what the church is truly all about. These people seem to be lost souls. Unbelievable. And to give it as gifts to students really shows that they are in absolute ignorance of the Church and her history. These people need to go back to school. They do need our prayers, and perhaps a rosary as well.

I can tell you, here, in my area, there is almost a kind of glee with some. My friend said, when the book came out, 'I knew it!', when she called me one morning to say her box of copies had arrived. And excitedly discussed how we knew these rumors but Brown had just proved them and had the courage to publish them. She bought a dozen to give as gifts. We heatedly discussed it. She will no longer discuss it with me, because I just refuse to 'believe'. She says everyone she's given the book to as a gift agrees with her, and I believe it.

I am acquainted with many of the Catholic teachers and other teachers in my town through some volunteer work. I mention this only because most of them love it, have read it, have given it as gifts. One carries with her a well worn, bookmarked copy, everywhere she goes. And they share this book's fictional ideas with their students, passing it off as 'learning'. Truly heretical stuff such as Jesus was married, Mary had other children, etc, contrary to Church teaching makes it into the classroom even at the grade school level. I know, that's been happening for generations. But until now, most of these people just didn't buy into those things, or were older when presented with it.

That's a real danger of the book, it 'gets' folks who held firm to Church teaching through other 'storms', but now, packaged as a 'novel' and blockbuster movie, many who weren't swayed suddenly are. They do need our prayers. I've gotten into heated discussions with one or 2 of them who consider me now to be 'closeminded' and (said with a whisper) conservative. Ha!

Be in the World, but not of the World.

Wasn't that what Christ told his Disciples?

You've fought the good fight, and have shaken the dust from your sandals.

At times like this I think on Pilate's question to Christ, "What is Truth?"

Christ's beautiful response back, "Those who know me know the Truth."

This certainly must give us pause to think when we see such things take place. To literally tear apart the church to conform with the whims of society won't find these people the truth.

How can they be so shallow, and abandon common sense and truth?

Tragic... it really is.

Christ has Risen!
