I am now meeting people who say they are Calvinists, and really probably aren't

Does this sound like a few people we know??? ;O)

What Church fathers do you draw on (besides Augustine) to make the case that something like Calvinism was believed historically by the Church?

Faith, then, as well in its beginning as in its completion, is God's gift; and let no one have any doubt whatever, unless he desires to resist the plainest sacred writings, that this gift is given to some, while to some it is not given. - Augustine, A Treatise on the Predestination of the Saints

Do you or the Catholic Church as it now stands believe Augustine's statement-that faith is only given as a gift to a few?

Just a friendly reminder of who we are and what we believe.

Just for the record, in that picture he was headed back across the Tiber, on his way North to Geneva.

Someone I care about has called it the "comfort of Calvinism".

I often wonder why people are so afraid to believe that Every gift and every trial comes from the hand of God for our good and His eternal purposes.

"Calvinism is warmly" B-D - Isn't that an oxymoron?

Oh, I don't know. Sometimes we Calvinists can get pretty "heated". :O)

FWIW, That same phrase can be found on a church's website.

Suffice it to say that I have been as busy as a Trinity Vineyard pastor.

That being said, how have you been, BD?

Thanks.

It's only been about 6 mos. that I emerged from the stone age and began to be able to view dvds. Up until that time, I had a 1962 13" black and white Philco. It was the ugliest t.v. you've ever seen in your life. In fact, when I first moved to Rochester, the people who lived below me were robbed, and I know the thieves were in my apartment because there were cigarette ashes in the toilet, and I didn't smoke. I bet that their first impulse was to 'gift' me some of the stuff they'd lifted. I would have loved to have seen their faces when they entered my apartment and found that ghastly thing. Not that I'm not appreciative mind you, it did last 43 yrs.

Anyway, wanted to alert you guys to the following possible historical happening.
