What Paul does mention is the fact that the Christian ought to grow up and the issue is never tongues (even when the gift was legimate), but maturity.

That is why he said he put away 'childish' things such as tongues, prophecy and knowledge for the better way, Charity, which bears fruit.

Let all things be done unto edifying (1Cor.14:26)
