While it is true that St. Augustine was not infallible, much of what he said was truly profound and a systematic compilation of what came before him. If St. Augustine was wrong on such things as Mary or the saints, then he is wrong along with the rest of the Church and Fathers who express their own beliefs and practice of the then current Church. Where the Church disagreed with St. Augustine were on his particular innovations that were nowhere found among the writings of the Fathers. This is the difference between the Apostolic Church and the Protestant communities. They base their beliefs on the interpretations of Scriptures that were never held by Christians preceding Luther. The Spirit has always been in the Church, not only with the advent of Martin Luther...
More of your doctrine of a salvation by works. I didn't see any mention of the Church hanging out on the road to Damascus. And we have plenty of other examples.
Really? Paul was one of our biggest advocates of the Church, the Body of Christ, through whom no one can be saved outside of. There is no other means by which Christ established an alternative manner of salvation. We come to faith in Christ through the Church and the Scriptures that it continues to give mankind. It is through this social organization that God continues to bless us.
Not sure what you mean about "salvation by works", as the Church has not taught this...
